A Positive Signal to Investors: Mauritania is selected to receive funding for an MCC Threshold Program
Sending a positive signal to investors, in December 2022, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) selected Mauritania to receive a US$ 20 million funding package as part of its Threshold Program. Washington is demonstrating its trust in Mauritania to reform policies that limit economic growth, thereby paving the way for potential investors in infrastructure, energy, and agriculture. Investors should take note of this West African country as it adopts policies conducive to new investment.
The selection for funding comes at an opportune time, as the nation looks to attract more foreign investment and develop critical sectors of its economy. The MCC threshold program puts the country on the right track to do so.
An MCC delegation recently traveled to Mauritania to conduct diplomatic meetings and do technical studies needed to launch the Threshold Program. Once Mauritania meets its threshold goals, it will become eligible to apply for a five-year MCC compact and benefit in the billions MCC has slated for future development projects.
